Ophthalmologists registering with OcuPlan

Katy Taylor
Katy Taylor

In order to register with OcuPlan you must be a fully qualified ophthalmology consultant who is or has been in the past appointed as an NHS consultant and is approved to work in your local private hospital.

You need to be fully registered with the General Medical Council and on the specialist register for ophthalmology. It is important to be up to date with your appraisals and re-validation. All consultations with OcuPlan patients should be covered by your own private medical indemnity insurance.

To become an OcuPlan recognised consultant you must agree to our full terms and conditions for ophthalmologists which you can find below.

OcuPlan Terms and Conditions for ophthalmologists

Becoming an OcuPlan recognised consultant should help you build connections with local optometrists and expand your private practice.

Basic requirements for joining:

  • hold or have previously held a substantive NHS consultant post;
  • hold a current General Medical Council (GMC) and be listed on the specialist register for ophthalmology with no previous hearings or investigations;
  • hold a Certificate of Completion of Training;
  • have current medical indemnity insurance up to the amount advised by your professional or regulatory body;
  • receive payment from us via BACS, and agree not to send invoices to our customers.

What we need from you:

A signed agreement to the OcuPlan Terms and Conditions for Ophthalmologists;

  • contact details and payment bank account details
  • keep your information up to date and accurate, including your contact details
  • invoice us within six months of the consultation date
  • charge either your self pay fees, or if they are more than our ceiling rate, charge us our ceiling rate
  • agree to our Data Protection Policy and have read our Privacy Notice.

Important information regarding the competition and markets authority guidance for consultation fees

At OcuPlan we do not set consultant professional fees for self paying private patients, these fees are set by you independently from your competitors, which helps to protect patients from excessively high fees in general. The fees we pay individual consultants are either the same as their normal 'self-pay' consultation fees, or are to a maximum limit that we set as a ceiling price in order to be able to maintain a viable business. In this way OcuPlan responds to the market and does not set the market price for consultations, which helps to keep the costs down for patients.
